Results of the XIII Calico Cat International bilingual haiku contest.

Dear friends, I am happy to announce the RESULTS of the contest. As always, I was looking for faithfulness to the theme of the painting, emploiment in some way of the images in the sumi-e, and my motto was: original and alive! Happily I see that many haiku here do have these qualities! Thank you all for your love for haiku that spans continents! -- Дорогие друзья, c большой радостью объявляю РЕЗУЛЬТАТЫ этого конкурса. Как всегда, я искала в хайку верность теме рисунка, использование его образов, и моим девизом было: хайку оригинальное и живое! К счастью, таких было много! Спасибо вам всем за любовь к хайку, соединяющую континенты! :)

ten ni kogare / koma no yume natsuno wo / kakemeguru
 
This is a haiku of a graceful beauty and lyricism. From the very first glance, it fascinates with clearly sensed overtones of Japanese classic tradition. The haiku is a honkadori --  an allusive variation on an earlier "foundation poem" (honka) that would vary it (-tori, -dori) with a new conception. In Japanese classical poetics including haiku, the complementarity of its affectivism and expressivism comes from the wholeness of its lyricism. All that lives is essentially poetic, and therefore the mutsang's dream and the poets's dreams are part of reality. The foundation poem here is Basho's death haiku:  旅に病んで　 夢は枯野を    駆け巡る ( tabi ni yande / yume wa kareno wo / kakemeguru ), in English: on a journey, ailing / my dreams go wondering / on a withered moor. Kyoko wrote: "Strongest earthquake ruined Tohoku regions and Basho's Deep North was also ruined. It would be the saddest disaster for many haiku poets. So, this time I decided to make one of my poems as honkadori style. It's my hommage for Basho's last poem." Beautiful homage, and a skillful rendering -- BRAVA, Kyoko-san! Sumi-e 'Mustang and Balloon' goes to Ehime, Japan. --   Это необыкновенно изящное и лиричное хайку. С первого взгляда оно завораживает явно ощутимыми обертонами японской классической традиции. Это хайку хонкадори -- вариация, содержащая иносказательную ссылку на более раннее "основное" хайку (хонка) и изменяющая его ( -тори, -дори) введением новой концепции. В японской классической поэзии, включая хайку, комплиментарность её эмоциональности и силы воздействия идёт от целостности её лирической основы. Всё живущее поэтично в своей основе, поэтому грёзы мустанга и грёзы поэта одинаково являются частью реальности. "Основное" хайку здесь -- посмертное хайку Башё: 旅に病んで 夢は枯野を 駆け巡る  (таби ни яндэ / юмэ ва карэно о / какэмэгуру), по-русски: заболел в пути: / грёзы мои блуждают / над высохшим торфяником. Киёко объясняет: "Сильнейшее землетрясение разрушило области Тохоку, и "глубокий Север", по которому путешествовал Башё, лежит в руинах. Это, наверное, самое печальное бедствие для многих поэтов хайку. Потому на этот раз я решила написать одно из моих хайку как ханкодори. Это выражение моего почтения посмертному хайку Башё." Прекрасное поэтическое почтение, мастерски выполненное -- БРАВА, Киёко-сан! Суми-е "Мустанг и Воздушный шар" едет в Эхимэ, Японию.

Haiku-surprise, haiku-shock, haiku-wonder! Someone is face to face with an eagle -- and the eagle is soaring, hence that someone must be also in the sky. Is it a person? Another bird/flock of birds? A balloon, a deltaplan (hang glider), a sky-diver? A mustang jumping towards the sky? Everything is possible, why not! It is ever so often that we encounter a wonder in real life which exceeds anything we knew before. In this haiku, the limitless sky as a powerful image of freedom, is enhanced with a splendid image of a close-up look at the eagle, another symbol of freedom. Isn't your heart soaring when you read this haiku? Mine sure is :) BRAVA, Annie! An original sumi-e of a smaller size goes to Denmark.  --  Хайку-сюрприз, хайку-шок, хайку-чудо! Кто-то лицом к лицу с орлом -- и орёл парит в небе, значит и этот кто-то тоже в небе. Человек ли это? Другая птица/стая птиц? Воздушный шар, дельтаплан, парашютист? Или это мустанг, взлетевший на мгновенье в скачке к облакам? Всё возможно, почему бы нет! Часто мы встречаемся в жизни с такими чудесами, что никакая реальность не сравнится. В этом хайку бескрайнее небо, как мощный образ свободы, усилен образом близко находящегося орла -- тоже символа свободы. Воспаряет ли и ваше сердце, когда вы это читаете? Моё так точно! :) БРАВА, Эни! Оригинальное суми-е меньшего размера едет в Данию.

These two haiku instantly attracted me with the depth and poignancy they both possess. In the first one, the dash to freedom abruptly cut short by some unknown event. It might be a barrier, an injury, a heart attack... even death. In the second haiku, the longing for freedom for someone who is in a hospital, takes form of its symbol (mustang). In both ku, what we see is maybe 10% of what is beyond the scenes painted, and the rest is understated, open to any possibility and imagination. These poems penetrate into our hearts, and remain in our memory. BRAVA, Valeria, and BRAVO, Damian! Both poets will receive original sumi-e of smaller sizes. --  Эти два хайку моментально привлекли своей глубиной и пронзительностью. В первом, порыв к свободе внезапно прерван каким-то неизвестным событием. Это мог быть барьер, ранение, инфаркт, даже смерть... Во втором, жажда свободы для кого-то, кто сейчас в больнице, видится символом (мустангом) в облаках за окном. В обоих ку то, что мы видим, всего лишь процентов десять или около того. Остальное -- недоговорённость, открытая для многих возможностей и воображения. Эти хайку проникают в душу, остаются в памяти. БРАВА, Валерия, и БРАВО, Дамиан! Два оригинальных суми-е едут в Италию и Польшу.

И тебе поздравления, Саша :) Сейчас заметила, что в твоём хайку строка сместилась вниз... но боюсь уже поправлять: каждый раз при редактировании поста он искажается, или даже исчезает, и приходится всё начинать с нуля! Три раза исчезал, я потратила 8 часов, чтобы этот пост просто выложить! ЖЖ всё ещё дёргается как ненормальный...

Пожалуйста :) И тебе спасибо за участие на постоянно хорошем уровне, Марина! Твоё второе мне даже больше понравилось -- унего такой "рисовальный" второй смысл! Не знаю, как ты сама видела это -- сознательно или нет (часто в хайку оказывается то, чего сам автор и не предполагал), но в этом хайку удивительно передан сам процесс рисования! Ты это специально, или как? Признавайся! :)

Kyoko's honkadori is wonderful and full of meanings bringing together the ancient times and modernity, literal allusion and particular poetic sensibility.
Annie's haiku has a very deep philosophical meaning, and Damian's poem was one of my favorite :)

Чудо вдохновение! Какой восторг!
От всего сердца поздравляю Вас, Оля, с окончанием 13-ого конкурса! Вы, как всегда, ещё раз показали всем нам высокий уровень во всём - начиная с рисунком, с вниманием ко всем, с комментариями и - наконец - с умением мотивировать наград!
С большим удовольствием я читаю их!
К сожалением не могла участвовать со своими комментариями, но успела почувствовать волнение хайку-поэтов и понять, что действительно ХАЙКУ - ПОЭЗИЯ ВЫСШИЙ СОРТ!

Если всё пытаться вместить, то получится ни на что не похоже, не то что на хайку :) Человек хотел сказать именно это, мне кажется ... но может, можно как-то ещё перевести, пусть более многословно? Средняя строчка практически ничего не добавляет, потому я её проигнорировала :)

This is a gift from our participant and one of the contest's favorites, Francis Tugaye -- as he told me, it's particularly for Kyoko-san, in admiration :) Francis is a calligrapher, he writes all of his haiku this way.



Это подарок от одного из участников и всеобщего любимца на этом конкурсе, Фрэнсиса Тугайе. Как он мне сказал, этот коллаж -- дань почтения победителю конкурса Киёко-сан :) Фрэнсис занимается каллиграфией, и пишет все свои хайку вот так.

I was happy to read all poems presented here, in this atmosphere accompanied by wild horse and free balloon. I wrote after the contest one haiku inspired by Origa's nice Sumi-e and contest which I need to share here as a gift:

or against the wind -
which is freedom?

Оля, после Вашей мотивировки ( Киёко Шибата ) я заметила вот что:

В моей книге „Этаж вверх”, 2006 г. – стр.267:

гугутка гукне
сърцето ми плаче
за мама и татко
х
голубка воркует -
сердце моё плачет
для мамы и папы…

У Башё:

крик фазана
печаль по погибшим
мама и папа

Это по Вашему можно ли считаться хонкадори?

Здравствуйте, Цвета! Да, Ваш стих можно считать хонкадори на стих Башё -- даю точный перевод:

chichi haha no
shikirini koishi
kiji no koe

по отцу и матери
очень тоскую, когда слышу
крик фазана

Значение слов по-японски:

chichi -- отец
haha -- мать
no -- частица именительного или винительного падежа; или притяжательная частица
shikirini -- очень, сильно
koishi(i) --(прилаг.) милый, дорогой, любимый
......koishigaru -- скучать, тосковать по кому-то
(Башё тут укоротил глагол, как видите, чтобы число "слогов" уменьшить; для японских читателей это понятно)
garu -- суффикс, используемый для образования глагола от корня прилагательного
kiji -- фазан
koe -- голос, звук

На японском, повторение гласного "и" (i) здесь усиливает ритм и музыкальность стиха.

Это хайку Башё, в свою очередь, тоже является хонкадори на стих (вака) монаха Гёоки (668 - 749) -- посмотрите, повторяет практически то же самое, что сказал Гёоки:

yamadori no
horo-horo-to naku
koe kieba
chichi ka to zo omou
haha ka to zo onou

голос фазана
звучит так печально
напоминая мне
о давно ушедших
отце и матери

В японском фолклоре фазан считается птицей, очень сильно любящей своих детей. Существует даже пословица: "Yakeno no kigisu, yoru no tsuru." Она означает: "Фазан летит в горящее гнездо, чтоб спасти своих детей; журавль согревает детей своим телом ночью в снегу."

(ещё раз посмотрите, как намного экономнее японский язык по сравнению с руссским! :))
